Free device checkup & granting us access

Run our read-only scan for an instant health check of your computer — or, once you’re a client, choose how much access to grant us. Either way: transparent, and you stay in control the entire time.

The automated scan

Not a client yet? This works as a free device checkup — run it, send it, and we’ll reply with a plain-English summary of what we see. No strings.

You run a small, read-only check on your own computer. It changes nothing — it only looks and writes a report to your Desktop, which you email to us. No installation, no account, no connection.

⬇︎ Mac — download scan ⬇︎ Windows — download scan
  1. Mac: open Terminal (press ⌘ + space, type “Terminal”), type bash  (with a space), drag the downloaded file into the window, press Enter.
  2. Windows: right-click the downloaded file → Run with PowerShell. If Windows warns about scripts, choose “Run once.”
  3. A report appears on your Desktop in about 10 seconds. Review it if you like — then email it to quinton@byfiveit.com.
  4. That's it. You'll get a written summary of what we found — usually the same day — with an offer of a free 15-minute call to walk through it. No follow-up spam, ever.
What the scan checks: disk encryption (FileVault / BitLocker), whether a backup exists, when updates last ran, free disk space, firewall status, screen-lock settings, laptop battery health, and connected external drives.
What it never touches: your files, passwords, browser history, or any settings. Read-only, always.
Want to see the code first? You can.

The scan is a plain text script — open it in any text editor (or ask us to walk through it live). Nothing is hidden, nothing phones home, and it stops the moment it finishes.

Option B · Live guided session

Watch-us-fix-it remote session

For actual fixes (and audits where you’d rather we do the looking), we use AnyDesk — free, needs no account, and you see everything on your screen the whole time.

  1. Download AnyDesk from anydesk.com (just the app — no sign-up).
  2. On our call, read us the 9-digit address shown in the app and the one-time password it displays.
  3. Grant the connection when prompted. You can watch every click, and you can end the session at any moment — closing the window instantly cuts access.
Our access rules, always: we only open what the task requires, we never ask for your passwords (we set up password managers precisely so we never need them), we don’t record sessions, and when the work is done we disconnect — and AnyDesk removes unattended access unless you explicitly ask for it.
Consent

Recording your authorization

Before any session or scan-based audit, we keep a simple written record of your OK. Fill in your name, tick the box, and this opens a pre-written email to us — your consent, timestamped in your own outbox.

✓ Your email app should have opened with your authorization ready to send.

One safety rule, for everyone

Legitimate IT support never cold-calls you asking for remote access, and never asks for your passwords. We only ever connect when you contacted us first. If anyone else ever asks for this kind of access, close the window and call us instead — we’ll tell you for free whether it’s a scam.
